Describe an anime cliche that gets on your nerves.

Jd: The unforgettable friend/girlfriend/boyfriend that moved away and came back coincidentally to ruin/doubt the budding relationship in the love interests

Sean: The whining little sister and big brother complex, high-pitched girly voices

Jahmere: Pool, hot spring, beach, summer episodes; cliffhanger endings (Berserk); twin-tailed lolis and snaggle teeth (Cowboy Bebop); breasts that in no way can possibly be real (Bleach); let the hero travel, defeat mini-bosses, get to the big boss, get beat, go get a power, come back and win (Avatar: The Last Airbender); that high-pitched laugh rich girls do; girls who don’t speak the hell up/overprotective (Eyeshield 21, Kimi ni Todoke), student council runs the school (Yamada and the Seven Witches).

Spice and wolf had some love triangle elements in it and I think they usually set a lot of anime and manga in high school because they are trying to get a younger audience for reliability.

    • Ravuf

Did it really though? Now if you are talking about the light novels then that’s a different story, but in the show it seems pretty obvious that Holo and Lawrence are stuck together like glue, even with characters like Amarti trying to separate them.

  • Devin Wolfe

I don’t see why Cody still watches anime as one would assume that if you dislike something you would stay as far away from it as possible.

    • Max-Vader

Even from you I expect better attempts at trolling.

      • Devin Wolfe

For the record I don’t troll or at least try not to. The only time I ever did anything close to trolling was when Cody started and brought up my mother. Which was a piss-poor attempt at trolling on his part.

        • Kerberous

That’s not really something you should admit. At least not considering the shit that you’re usually saying.

          • Devin Wolfe

“That’s not really something you should admit.”

            And why is that?

          • Kerberous

“At least not considering the shit that you’re usually saying.”

Did you honestly miss this part ?

          • Devin Wolfe

“Did you honestly miss this part ?”

            Not at all.

  • Wakashi

Since E3 just ended, I was wondering what you guys thought about it, or what you’re looking forward to.
I’ve been a big fan of Halo since 2002, but I don’t see myself bending over for the price of the xbone just to own the Master Chief Collection. EA’s press conference stole the show for me, and not because of Assassin’s Creed (it did look cool), but because I’m really hyped for Mirror’s Edge 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 3. There were a lot of other games I’m interested in, but I’ll leave it at that.

E3 was shit as usual. Bloodborne was the only good game there, but Sony didn’t even bother to show any gameplay footage. And Nintendo “won” by doing absolutely nothing.

      • Wakashi

        “E3 was shit as usual.”

Well at least there wasn’t as many technical difficulties, lol. Last year it seemed like everyone’s game during the press conferences froze at one point or another. And I find Ashia Tyler making awkward moments during the EA conference like last year to be amusing to some extent.

“Bloodborne was the only good game there, but Sony didn’t even bother to show any gameplay footage.”

I’m not really into zombie games outside of games like Half Life 2 where there’s a variety of enemies, and yeah no gameplay doesn’t help make me care unless I was already looking forward to something in the first place. In terms of horror-esque games, The Order 1886 looked interesting to me.

“And Nintendo “won” by doing absolutely nothing.”

If by “nothing” you mean having more first-party games as usual well yeah that’s whatever. I was actually happy just tp see Nintendo back at E3 this year. Even though I haven’t bought a console from them since the gamecube, I still want to see them get better. But their skylander-esque figure concept may become a much bigger deal than you think. I don’t mean I like the idea, on the contrary, I think that if it becomes a huge thing along with the other turn-you-toy-into-game-character franchises, this could screw up what gaming is. If I have to start buying toys just to use a specific character to fight with in Street Fightier, that will be a sad day.

        • Devin Wolfe

My last Nintendo product was a N64.

          • Wakashi

Ah man, so no Metroid Prime?
That was my peanut butter & jelly before I got an xbox.

          • Devin Wolfe

Sadly no I went straight to a PS2 after that then a PS3 and now I’m in the Xbox corner with a 360 and Xbox One.

        • Jahmere Durham

Were doing a E3 cast week after next.

          • http://www.anime3000.com Sean Russell

We’re talking about E3 on this week’s podcast.

      • Devin Wolfe

GTA V for PC made my happy, so did Battlefield Hardline. I’m also very interested in The Crew.

  • http://www.gintalifelessons.wordpress.com Colton

You guys seriously have couldn’t picked a better title photo for the post. Love it!

And as long as Cody’s rants can be, that rant he had about cliche’s was pretty great.

  • Emblyon

Cody I think you should watch fate/zero just to prove a point, if you still hate it then no-one can say anything about it( and hey, we’ll probably get a good rant out of it if that’sthe case) but if you think it’s not as bad as you thought then that’s that.
    also gen was the writer.

    • Cody Baier

      I value my time.

      • Emblyon

Not even to rip it like boku no piko? You could do a whole type moon podcast, it would be really funny to hear the rant you get from that one.

        • Cody Baier

Boku no Pico was 3 episodes long. Type Moon shows/games are excruciating to sit through.

  • Emblyon

I thought the reason he said the guy from dxd couldn’t get any was because it would screw up the story and plot for any possible future seasons.

Also, I finally realized why the novel was so much better than the anime, it’s because you don’t have to stare at constant fan service, so you can pay attention to the story and plot development because its only words.
Though even I have to say some things were really unnecessary. Like most of his power Ups, while some were pretty cool, others could have been achieved elsewise.

    • Kerberous

“I thought the reason he said the guy from dxd couldn’t get any was
because it would screw up the story and plot for any possible future
      seasons.”

How would sex in an anime about sex actually ruin the story ? YOU CAN’T HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITHOUT SEX.

“Also, I finally realized why the novel was so much better than the anime, it’s because you don’t have to stare at constant fan service, so you can
pay attention to the story and plot development because its only words.”

It can’t be any worse, that’s for sure.

      • Emblyon

DxD is probably the only title that can use this reason, it was because he had a trauma from his first girlfriend.
And dxd itself is good story rise, it would be better if they took out or changed some things, but it has plot development, character history and development, good villans. The first season wasn’t all that great compared to the novel and although season 2 was better it still had a ways to go. If the toned down the FS then I think more people would have liked it.
Plus they didn’t have the pool/beach/hotspring episode.

        • Max-Vader

“DxD is probably the only title that can use this reason, it was because he had a trauma from his first girlfriend.”
Are you sure he isn’t just using that as an excuse to mask his blatant homosexuality, just like every harem-protagonist ever?

          • Emblyon

well, putting aside the harem part (thats one of the things that were unneeded tat i mentioned earlier), there were quite a few jokes inthe comments of the translated pages about him being gay, but those stopped at around the end of vol 10(you can see why there were all these jokes with how long it took to get over the trauma).
plus he’s engaged to a grl and has been proposed to by another.
and again while it’s very hard to read through at times when he does a stupid power up, i dont think these woud happen if he was gay.

  • Emblyon

Now that you guys mentioned it, you’re right I can only think of 1 girl who has twintails and a proper bust.

  • James Tuddrussell

There is at least one Japanese woman with huge boobs: Hitomi “J-cup” Tanaka.

    • Cody Baier

She’s an anomaly, though, and went into porn because of it.

  • James Tuddrussell

School Rumble had a good love triangle, I think it worked because it was a vehicle for comedy and not really played for romance or drama.
