ya hunter x hunter is awesome, look forward to hear sean russell be right

    • Max-Vader

I can already tell the comment-section for that episode will be hilarious…

  • Max-Vader

I’m really looking forward to this.
By the way, a few things I wanna mention: First, I actually didn’t abandon the plan for a Naruto-discussion. It’s just that you never got back to me on that. If I was supposed to be the one who had to contact you, then I simply misunderstood that at the time. But yeah, I’m still very much willing to talk about that series. At length.
Next, you mentioned your suspicion I might have had an agenda going into this because I had heard of Hunter x Hunter from the context of you comparing it favorably to Jojo, and therefore I suppose you assume that I’m doing this because I want to get back at you in some way by trying to piss you of via talking smack about a (in your mind) actually good show. Y’know, the 4chan-method. Well, allow me to put those fears to rest. I don’t feel the need to get back at you or annoy you in any way, because I don’t mind that you don’t like Jojo. See, I make a distinction between liking something and saying something is good/bad. I don’t care that much about people liking something (although if it’s shit like Boku no Pico, you can bet I’ll be fairly perplexed that someone can actually like this dreck). But saying something is good or bad when it isn’t, that is something I do care about because the quality or lack thereof of a product is actually verifiable.
My point is, I don’t have a dog in this fight, in the sense that when I watched Hunter x Hunter, I didn’t try to hate it for spite’s sake or anything like that. I was completely willing to let it surprise me, and had it actually been a good show, I would have been the first one to say “I thought this show might not be that good based on the snippets I had seen, but after watching it I have to completely agree with Sean that it is amazing”. Unfortunately I can’t say that because this show is bad.
Now granted, a lot of people probably won’t believe me and either say I did dismiss it before watching it after all or that I thought it was good but just don’t want to admit it because I don’t wanna say I was wrong or whatever other stupid nonsense they can come up with. Well, I can’t exactly prove that I was telling the truth because you could easily bring up one of those paranoid fantasies I just mentioned and claim they are true instead and I’m just lying, but I’ll make an effort to make you believe me anyway. Here’s how: When we do this, the first thing I will do before starting with any complaints is I will list off everything I liked about Hunter x Hunter, because believe it or not, I always give the devil it’s due. In fact, let me end this post by saying something nice about the series.

On the whole, Hunter x Hunter is better than Naruto.

Let’s get ready to rumble! I would say we each bring an additional person to represent our side of the argument, but you won’t find anyone. SLAM!

      • Max-Vader

This would probably be more of a devastating burn if popular consensus had any influence on whether something is good/right or not. (Also I actually have people who agree with me, not that it matters.)

Incidentally, I almost forgot about this: You said “well here’s the thing, you can make a good case if you have an agenda”. Actually, the opposite is true. The more of an agenda you have, the worse your arguments will be, because you’ll start to ignore things that are inconvenient to your preferred conclusion. Just look at every TV-Evangelist ever or the Lolicon Defense Brigade here on A3K.

        • http://www.anime3000.com Sean Russell

That would be true if we were all machines. BLEEP BLOP BLOOP.

          • Max-Vader

            That doesn’t even make sense.
(Besides, we are machines. Biological ones.)

          • Cody Baier

I think Sean Russell is turning into one of those blobs from the Herculoids…

        • Devin Wolfe

“The more of an agenda you have, the worse your arguments will be, because you’ll start to ignore things that are inconvenient to your preferred conclusion”

Hmm sounds like someone I know but I wonder who?

          • Max-Vader

I have no idea. But hey, maybe this can help you locate that person?

          • Devin Wolfe

Nah I think you need it more.

          • P Punkt Alex

And here I thought you lacked any sort of selfawareness. Good job, buddy!

          • Devin Wolfe

What agenda do you think I have?

          • Max-Vader

This, except with a little girl.

          • Devin Wolfe

Do you have any evidence to back that up or are you just pulling this from where the sun doesn’t shine again?

      • Jahmere Durham

  • Kerberous

Hunter x Hunter is near perfect ? It’s not the worst shounen out there, but most of its arcs don’t even have a pay off for god’s sake. And Killua (hahaha, very creative) is probably one of the worst characters in anime. No one should treat that white haired shota bait as a serious threat and he should have been a minor villain at most. His boyfriend is also one of the most boring shounen protagonists out there. Come to think of it, there is absolutely nothing special or interesting about any Hunter x Hunter character. Their story arcs don’t make that much sense either. Our main character is looking for his father who doesn’t want to meet him for some reason, and I’m nearly 100% sure that his reason will be “Gon, in order to become the supreme hunter or w/e you need a goal !”

“Ging has a shy and stubborn personality, to the point that he only wants
Gon to meet him alone and claims that it would be cowardly of Gon to
bring a friend to meet him, causing one of his friends to wonder if he
is afraid of crowds. Judging by his actions at the New Hunter Chairman
Election to ensure Netero’s will will be carried out, he seems to
    respect the late Chairman considerably.
    ” HxH Wiki

Turns out the reason is even dumber than what I imagined. Is this guy supposed to be a joke that I’m not getting ?

    • Max-Vader

      “His boyfriend”
I see what you did there, and it amuses me considerably.

Also, now Sean finally has found another person on the Internet who doesn’t like HxH.

      • http://www.anime3000.com Sean Russell

I’ve also found someone that is revealing how much he actually knows about the series based on his descriptions of the characters. This is going to be a hoot. BLEEP BLOP BLOOP

        • Max-Vader

          “BLEEP BLOP BLOOP”
Either you’re really good at hiding your debate-power level from my scouter or this episode will end up being like… well, basically every single one-sided slaughter of a fight in Hunter x Hunter, ironically enough.

          • Wakashi

A lot of of the fights seem one-sided because they don’t drag out like most in shounen anime. It’s about exploiting people’s weaknesses and not wasting time to look awesome for 20 minutes. They just get the job done and move on. Even Gon gets criticized about his signature move in the show because of how much time he wastes charging up for it. Of course, there is a particular fight that lasts over an episode long, but it deserved it, considering the amount of build up leading to it. Peronally I like the pacing of the fights because of how swiftly MOST of them are resolved. Definitely not ripping off DBZ from that aspect at least, lol.

        • Kerberous

Are you honestly gonna deny that pretty much every arc (at least up to what I’ve seen) ends in a pretty underwhelming way ?

  • P Punkt Alex

Whoever wins, that HxH podcast will be pure entertainment.

  • Cody Baier

The song I mentioned in this episode:

  • Cyninjas

For all Cody’s defense of Vic Mignogna, I find it funny that I am pretty sure the unnamed voice actor he was referring to that had relations with a female fan was in fact our pal Vic. It is an old rumor, and as he pointed out, probably not true, but I remember hearing a similar rumor about Vic a while back, so maybe…

Also the show Sean was trying to identify at the end of the show sounded like “Those Who Hunt Elves”. Could be wrong since I don’t know the show that well and the description was super hard to follow, but sounded vaguely like it.

    • http://www.anime3000.com Sean Russell

AWBrawler also suggested that title off the air. I’m guessing that’s the right one.

      • Cyninjas

I am surprised the folks at AAA didn’t figure it our themselves.

They are a pretty knowledgeable crew, so the fact that I was able to get something that stumped them surprises me.

Still, glad I could figure it out, if in fact TWHE was what was being described there.

      • Emblyon

I just looked at the description of TWHE and i couldn’t see any mention of a dwarf or a robot. so it may or may not be it.

  • Wakashi

At the end of the day, people who dislike HxH just have nothing to look forward to on Tuesdays, like most people. Tuesdays were always boring to me until HxH rescheduled.

Funny thing, most of the “flaws” I’ve read in some of the comments are well known to fans and amount to nothing but jokes when talking about the series. We all know about the ridiculous amounts of open-ended arcs, the lack of legitimate women, the NOT Cell and the gender confusion. Trying to make arguments about things that the fans jab at for fun sounds like a good time though, looking forward to it.

    • Kerberous

“At the end of the day, people who dislike HxH just have nothing to look
forward to on Tuesdays, like most people. Tuesdays were always boring
      to me until HxH rescheduled.”

This has to be one of the dumbest things ever said. And weren’t you the guy with a harem of gym girls ? Can’t they make your Tuesdays enjoyable ?

“Funny thing, most of the “flaws” I’ve read in some of the comments are
well known to fans and amount to nothing but jokes when talking about
the series. We all know about the ridiculous amounts of open-ended arcs,
the lack of legitimate women, the NOT Cell and the gender confusion.

sounds like a good time though, looking forward to it.”

I’m sure that even someone who jerks off to every inane fanservice show is aware of how stupid the show is. I’m also pretty sure that doesn’t make the show good or watchable.

Though I bet you’d be a pretty good ANN reviewer. They seem to enjoy saying crap like “this is normally GODAWFUL and whoever did this should be ashamed of himself/herself, but he/she did such a good job in this case that it’s perfectly acceptable.”

      • Wakashi

Chill out…….you remind me of CoD fans right now. So much unnecessary anger that you wouldn’t have the sack to do in front of me.

Btw, speaking of gyms, here’s a video I posted a few months ago. I’m surprised anyone even remembered something like that from so long ago, it’s almost kinda creepy actually. And I never said the word “harem” like you falsely assume, I just said I happen to know a lot of attractive women there that I hang out with. Also, I go there every other day starting on Mondays. (Yeah I know shameless plug. I wouldn’t of shared it if you didn’t mention it.)

        • Kerberous

Wait, you actually think that you’ve angered me or something ? HAHAHAHAHA
By all means, embarrass yourself as much as you want and reply while saying nothing as much as you want.

“I’m surprised anyone even remembered something like that from so long ago, it’s almost kinda creepy actually.”

          I
          actually said “weren’t you”… That probably means I wasn’t sure. If I
was 100% certain, I would have just said “Was your harem busy that day
?” or “Did you give your harem a day off ?”

          People with good
memory are creepy ? The guy bragging online to others about his high
standards in women is calling me creepy ? Are you serious ?

And people tend to remember other people online (or in general) and what they say for 2 reasons:
          1. They’re genuinely nice people and you’re glad that they’re alive.
          2. They act like the biggest douches on the planet and say the dumbest things.

          • Wakashi

            lolz

          • Kerberous

Neah, I’m actually jealous. I went to the gym for a while and there wasn’t even a single girl there. You actually hang out with tons of pretty girls and probably even give them the D. Teach me your ways, O Great One.

            Btw, nice backpedaling.

          • Wakashi

One of my friends who stopped going to the same gym before I started going was also pissed that there weren’t any girls at the gym when he was going there, lol. When he came to visit, he was like “WTF happened?!”. I didn’t start seeing a lot of women at my gym until about 2 years after I started going there. Maybe because it’s mainly a rock climbing gym and I guess rock climbing is popular among both genders, idk.

I don’t know how or where I back-pedaled but alright. Have fun still being angry over nothing while saying you’re not angry. Whatever it is, it looks and sounds like butt-hurt regardless.

          • Kerberous

News flash, if someone makes fun of the dumb things you say online, it’s not butthurt. You can call it butthurt, RAGE or w/e you want to make yourself feel better, but comparing my comments to angry CoD fans is just hilarious.

Oh, and you’ve backpedaled because you ignored pretty much everything I said and replied with “LOLZ, YOUZ BUTHURT, RAGE, LIKE COD FAN”. If you honestly don’t see that…Wow, I think I’ve run into another nut.

  • Wakashi

This wasn’t really discussed in the podcast but I think it’s something worth thinking about.

What is up with people getting angsty about an anime getting trendy or even close to being mainstream? The main victim here I’m referring to is Attack on Titan. Remember how people blew their faces off over Sailor Moon and still do? So why is it so bad when a new anime gets that attention? If you don’t like anime being “trendy”, then don’t bother going to Japan, for real.

  • Wakashi

After recently dealing with a friend from high school who apparently thinks there’s nothing weird about Tezuka’s skeletons in the closet, telling me that she makes a living off of drawing mostly S&M porn, and pretty much speaking like tumblr incarnate to me while calling me trash for defending Berserk (ultra-feminist from tumblr? surprise surprise), my annoyance towards cartoon porn has increased exponentially. I give Cody major props for being an artist who does not take the easy and low road to earn money from his art. You keep selling those merch and comics Cody, and please don’t become a yiffy.

  • http://electricsistahood.com/ VichusYotaru

    I’ll take Simon from Durarara.

I also put in a vote for Nichijou. It cracked me up.
