I get the feeling that if the main cast in Attack on Titan were school girls in uniforms, Cody would write off any good will he had for the series, lol.
And concerning Kill la Kill, it’s meant to not be taken seriously, at all. The moment you are annoyed by it being over-the-top, you’ve already missed the point. I really liked the episodic late-to-school episode because it was so stupid and wtf (reminded me so much of FLCL).

It’s okay if you don’t like the show, but don’t start throwing poop on everyone else’s enjoyment. Who cares if someone is more easily entertained than others. I’m tired of this nerd-only concept that “You’re worse than me because I don’t watch the crap you watch”. Who cares…

“I get the feeling that if the main cast in Attack on Titan were school
girls in uniforms, Cody would write off any good will he had for the
      series, lol.”

Gee, I wonder why. Just how stupid would the series be if that actually happened ?

“And concerning Kill la Kill, it’s meant to not be taken seriously, at all.”

      Are you serious ?
It’s about a girl looking for whoever murdered her father, and the plot turns into your usual “WE MUST SAVE THE WORLD FROM BLA BLA BLA”. Btw, incest rape…
It might have moments that are not meant to be taken seriously, but overall it sure looks like it’s trying to be serious.

      “Who cares…”

      You obviously do.

      • Wakashi

My point to the first statement is that using the schoolgirl aesthetic alone to judge a show altogether on top of generalizing others who look past it is petty (a reason I understand to an extent, but petty nonetheless).

“It might have moments that are not meant to be taken seriously, but overall it sure looks like it’s trying to be serious.”

Did you actually watch the show?

        “You obviously do”.

Once again, taking a person’s words out of context…..

What I do care about is sharing my thoughts on what I heard from this episode. When I said “Who cares” I was referring to the fact that some people actually think they’re better than someone else because they’re not as easily entertained by something and are very fervent about that concept. It’s the other side of nerd-dom. Casual people who aren’t trying so hard to not look lame don’t give a crap what you watch.

    • Cody Baier

By you pissing and moaning about my opinions all the time, aren’t YOU throwing poop on MY enjoyment?

      boom
      qq

      • Wakashi

That would be the case if you actually enjoyed the show.

        • Cody Baier

I give no fucks what the New York Times says.

    • Max-Vader

“I get the feeling that if the main cast in Attack on Titan were school
girls in uniforms, Cody would write off any good will he had for the
      series, lol.”
You do realize that in order to do that, you would have to change the show so much that it wouldn’t even remotely resemble Attack on Titan anymore, do you? The same would appy to any other good show like Monster, Ghost in the Shell: SAC and so on. See, the thing is that doing the “schoolgirls in uniforms are the main characters”-thing means you are forced into certain restrictions (for example the narrative will obviously have to involve a school in some way). Is it likely that the restrictions the schoolgirl-setting will bring with it result in good storytelling? No it isn’t. In fact time and time again, the opposite has been true. So judging that a show that has the cliche moe-schoolgirls will most likely be shit isn’t petty, it’s a justified conclusion based on the overwhelming evidence that shows with that as it’s major element suck. So now you know why we think that way.

      • Wakashi

I know what you mean about the restrictions. That’s one reason why I enjoy Space Brothers so much because it’s actually about life after school. What I’m saying concerning my criticism is that if nothing else except the characters’ aesthetic were completely ridiculous, would you still be able to look past it if everything else that’s good about the series was still there? How are people worse than you for looking past that? That’s all I’m criticizing.

Not everyone who watches a show with moe elements is watching it for that (i.e. Coppelion, even though that show was kinda boring to be honest), they just don’t care that those money-begging character designs are there. A lot of people are just de-sensitized by it so it’s like whatever, as long as the rest of the show has some merit.

        • Max-Vader

“What I’m saying concerning my criticism is that if nothing else except the characters’ aesthetic were completely ridiculous, would you still be able to look past it if everything else that’s good about the series was still there?”
Technically yes, but to the best of my knowledge, no such show exists. This also has a reason: If the makers of a show are so fixated on money that they are going with the safe bet of moe-blob schoolgirls, then quality storytelling is not exactly gonna be their first priority. Why else do you think the market is so oversaturated with this slapped-together cookie-cutter shit?

          • Wakashi

Fair enough. I try to give benefit of the doubt when it comes to some shows that shoehorn risk-free tropes to keep the hardcore crowd’s attention (specifically Japan). For example, Space Dandy, where it’s basically “Oh boobs for everyone!…Okay now back to what we really want to show you.” That’s the vibe I get from a lot of shows, and that could be just me and many others being very apologetic with the studios who are trying to balance between making some money and doing what they actually want.

  • Devin Wolfe

Well I’m going to try it, no promises though.

    • Wakashi

It’s on Crunchyroll now. At first it seemed like an April Fools joke, but it’s actually and finally streaming legally:

Also, there’s a handful of new JoJo figures up for pre-order.

I pay for a CR sub and Funimation sub.

After listening to this last night at work one question came to mind.

Have you seen The Heroic Legend of Arslan ova from around 1991?

I’ve got it on dvd and first saw it on tv back in the 90′s. Its not bad.
