The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender:

Since Avatar: The Last Airbender was dropped on us many a year ago, the Avatar franchise has caught on like wildfire. First with The Last Airbender, then with The Legend of Korra, with multiple games, a hilariously bad movie adaptation (with an even more hilarious Rifftrax), and a fanbase that’s nuttier than one of those giant-balled tanuki things eating grape nuts while listening to the Nutcracker Suite. But is it actually any good? Does it deserve all this attention and acclaim? And why does a choir of heavenly angels start singing whenever the name “Varrick” is mentioned? There’s only one way to find out…!

Producer’s Note: You may notice Cody’s mic quality is different in this episode. At the time it was recorded he was recovering from an illness, and was not able to record with his usual mic.’

Just to confirm, Young Justice did come out after Avatar. So you’re right about Cartoon Network being late on the draw. Sucks the series was canceled becuase of some very stupid reasons, in fact, I heard this was the same reason the ThunderCats reboot and Green Lantern CGI series were canceled.

As for Avatar, it’s a decent series, but I hate the forced shipping the creators (and subsequently, the fans) enforce. Hell, I’d argue that LoK looks better than 90% of all modern animation coming out nowadays (anime or cartoon).

    • Nah, he’ll probably like it and try to examine it “academically” because he fancies himself a legitimate critic. But he won’t get giddy over it like he did Last Airbender and Adventure Time.

      • Normality

Figures. He seems to be doing that a lot recently.

There’s an issue with trying to download the episode. It takes about a second and then will not play.
The embedded episode, on the other hand, is wonderful. 🙂

Did Cody change his mic or something?

    • Normality

Yes, he did sue to illness. That’s also why he coughs at several points. He mentions this in the podcast.

      • I did this episode from a makeshift bed using my chair, a footrest, some blankets, etc. My normal mic wouldn’t reach it, so I used the one in my webcam.

        • Normality

Thanks for elaborating. I knew it sounded like a webcam mic.

Varrick in season 4 is just soooo awesome.
there’s another varrick x zhu-li romance troll moment, and lots more of those woonderfull comments and actions that he’s known for, like how a unit of energy is 1 varrick”(which gives us the comment “there’s too many varrick’s!”), and a unit of weight is “1 zhu-li”

varrick even tarts developing a conscience, and the way he describes it is so funny.

Honestly, I’ve never felt any feminist vibe from Korra until season 4. I only hope that season 4 doesn’t become environmental propaganda.

I’ve just started watching the original Avatar, but I doubt I’ll finish it. Besides the unbearable amount of lollygagging, I don’t really like any of the characters. I’m actually surprised how much better Korra actually is.

And don’t remind me about Young Justice. I’ll probably never understand why they cancelled it. I’m not buying the fact that it was cancelled because more girls weren’t buying toys… That thing has to be a stupid rumour and nothing more.

    • That was what Paul Dini himself said was the reason it was cancelled.

      • Yep, that’s pretty much why. It’s more than a rumor. That’s why most cartoons go bye-bye.

Andrew and I created a Legend of Korra Waifu Chart. Enjoy.

    • That chart is still one of the best things ever.

  • Emblyon

well, korra just finished, and while it was awesome, i think there may be a couple of things about the last episode that may peev cody a little.

I liked the ozai fight because it was cathartic watching the abusive dad get beaten and to see the ultimate architect of misery get his deserts. The fight was well choreographed and because the avatar state had been used infrequently it felt less irritating
