Director Shichiro Watanabe and composer Yoko Kanno return to bring us a tale of love, growing up, and jazz. Kids on the Slope does a lot of things well, the story, writing and pacing are all great, and the animation is nice to look at too. KOTS also dodges most modern cliches associated with love triangles in anime. Make no mistake though, even though Jazz seems to be the focal point of this show, the real subject is the love story and friendships between the characters, both of which offer more than enough reason to purchase this show. If you like Yoko Kannos music and Watanbes directing style, you’ll be right at home here.
