SYNOPSIS
Once every couple of years, a show comes along and shows that actual planning, a great writing staff, and a simple but well thought out plot can be more entertaining than a mindless 300+ episode action filled fight fest. Spice and Wolf is that Show.
A show about a trader who finds a wolf deity in his cart and agrees to take her to her home in the far north sounds like a great plot for an action adventure anime. Instead the staff chose to focus on the relationship between the trader Kraft Lawrence and the wolf deity Holo. The result is a show that is lightly comedic, yet remains serious. All the while building the relationship between the pair in every episode.
It doesn’t force anything on it’s viewers and guides them along by the hand in an almost leisurely pace. The story is well thought out and planned and the frequent bantering between the two characters is never irritating as both actors do an excellent job in their respective roles.
Some people may be turned away from this show due to the heavy emphasis on trading and economics that goes with almost every episode, but we encourage you to give this show a try. It’s one of the most well written shows we’ve come across in the last two years.
